No, Split airport is not being remodeled or expanded like the title suggest. Even though Split airport is the most important airport on the Adriatic with one million international passengers landing on it, there is still no need for expanding it.
What I am talking about is that in 2009 there will be 12 more airline companies landing on Split airport than there were in 2008. Last year there were 48 airline carriers landing on Resnik with 15 of them being low budget airline companies.
Split airport is the first airport in Croatia that started doing business with low budget airline companies. From the total number of airline passengers arriving at Split airport one fifth of them came through low budget airline companies.
Some of the new airline carriers that will connect Split with the rest of Europe are:
Axis Airways – connecting Split and Nantes once a week
Blue 1 – connecting Split airport with Helsinki once a week
Vip Air – connecting Split airport with Bratislava 3 times a week
Lufthansa – connecting Split with Munchen 2 times a week
JET 2 Com – connecting Split and Gatwick once a week
This expanding interest to bring international passengers to Split, Croatia will be beneficial to other airports in vicinity of Split as well. Split airport does not have the capacity to accommodate all the request for landing during the summer season. These requests will be redirected to the nearby airports.
