Split Transfers

January 14th, 2009 No comments

bus-transportation-croatia Split has been a starting point for exploring Croatia, especially Adriatic coast for as long as I can remember, probably a lot longer than that. This is due to it’s geographic position combined with the fact that most vacationers come to Croatia to have some peace and quiet and to enjoy Croatia’s unspoiled beauty. These pleasures are hidden in smaller, more remote Croatian tourist destinations.

People coming to the Adriatic coast for their vacation often land at Split airport and just than decide to look for a way to transfer to their final destination. It’s a mistake to land at Split airport unprepared, that is without having organized a transfer to your final destination in advance. With tourism being one of the primary means of income on the Croatian Adriatic coast, don’t be surprised if you find prices for any travel related service higher that usual, especially during the high season. Same goes for the taxi transfers or any other kind of ground transportation. The smart thing or better yet the big money saving tip is to plan everything in advance.

Split Croatia – Climate

January 12th, 2009 No comments

split-croatia-climateWhat’s there to say about Split climate? I think the fact that roman emperor Diocletian build Diocletian’s palace in Split as his “summer house” say’s enough. He had half the world to choose from and yet he decided to build his summer residence there. Through centuries climate in Split was extremely pleasant and Split was and is one of the sunniest Mediterranean destinations due to it’s exceptionally convenient geographical position. The winter in Split is mild except when cold northern wind called “bora” (NE wind) blows. Then it is better to stay inside and keep warm. This condition doesn’t occur very often however. I would say that during the year maybe one month is really cold (that is around 3 to 7 degrees Celsius) which is nothing compared to most of European or Mediterranean cities.

Shopping in Split, Croatia

January 9th, 2009 No comments

split-croatia-shopping2The open market “Pazar” is more than a shopping location, it is a vivid meeting point for the local people: the place to get the fresh groceries and to feel the heartbeat of the town regarding the latest news and happenings in the life of the city. Of course you can get a nice beach towel/souvenir, maybe you’ll come across a nice handbag, a pair of sandals, probably made in China. But this is the place for fabulous fresh fruit and vegetables grown locally and amazing flowers, usually imported, but never the less beautiful. Make sure you set a few hours to spend in the atmosphere of the market soaking in the sounds, colors and the scents. If already there get some homemade specialties: some local cheeses as they go great with walnuts and wine on the balcony in the evening. For your family and friends get some honey, homemade schnapps: Travarica, Rogacica or some other homemade liquors and try the sun dried figs and rogac (Carob) these will be great to nibble on in front of the TV when you get back home.
